Best Kids & Best Male Gi Team: Brisbane Championship

The Brisbane Championship 2025, held on February 2 at Nissan Arena, showcased exceptional talent and competitive spirit within the BJJ community. Organized by the Queensland Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Circuit (QBJJC), the event attracted numerous participants across various divisions.


Galeb Brothers BJJ Association delivered a remarkable performance, securing first place in both the Kids Team and Male Gi categories. This achievement underscores their dedication to nurturing talent across all age groups from kids to adults.



From our very own Yatala academy, the individual accolades were also noteworthy:

• Remi Botha: Clinched the gold medal in his division, demonstrating technical prowess and strategic excellence.

• Alec McDonald: Earned a bronze medal in his first competition. With no matches in his weight category, Alec was bumped up two divisions, showing amazing heart and never gave up in 2 tough matches.

• Dave Haig: Achieved double gold, winning both weight and open weight categories. Dominating all matches and winning all via submission.

• Yuto Kogawa: Secured a gold medal in his gi weight division. Fighting to the last seconds to secure the gold and having the spectators on the edge as he claimed victory.

Overall a great start to the 2025 comp season. Thank you to our loyal team of supporters from the professors, coaches, students, parents, friends & family who always show up to cheer on the fellow competitors!


The event was a testament to the growing popularity and competitive spirit of BJJ in Queensland. Participants and teams showcased high levels of skill, preparation, and sportsmanship, contributing to the vibrant martial arts community in the region.
