BYRON BAY NATIONAL AUS OPEN

Last weekend our team headed south to Byron Bay to compete at the BJJAO National Australian Open. It was a great event and Galeb Brothers Yatala had 4 competitors stepping out on the competition mat.

Results:

Professor Sean - Silver / No Gi Open Weight

Saphire Morgan - Double Gold / Gi & No Gi

Kenani Mangakahia - Gold / No Gi

Rylan Edgar - Gold & Bronze / Gi & No Gi

PROF. SEAN MACFARLANE

Professor Sean competed in the No Gi Open Weight Brown/Black belt division. Testing himself against the big boys of the division and claiming 2nd place after 2 very tough matches. It was great to see Professor out on the competition mat showcasing his skills.

SAPHIRE MORGAN

This was the second time Saphire has competed in BJJ and after finishing with bronze in her first comp, she made the changes needed and was a completely different competitor at Byron Bay. Saphire had great composure and executed her game plan to walk away with double gold in Gi & No Gi. With a total of 5 matches for the day she earned her victories and gold medals and we are so proud of her. Well done Saphire!

KENANI MANGAKAHIA

Kenani competed in the No Gi division and had a flawless performance and winning gold. Controlling her opponent and finishing her match with a nice belly down arm bar.

RYLAN EDGAR

Rylan is apart of our juniors program and it was his very first time competing in BJJ. Rylan had no one register in his division, so he was put up 1 age bracket to have some matches. Rylan won gold in his Gi division and in the No Gi his match was a back and forth battle with a great competitor, who managed to secure a submission late in the match. Rylan showed great technique and composure for his first time competing and up against kids older then him. We are very proud of him!

All in all it was a great day at the competition. Congratulations to our competitors and thank you to our teammates, friends and family who showed up to support.
