Last Sunday the QBJJC South East Queensland BJJ competition was held at Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast. Another great event to get the 2023 competition circuit underway.
Our Galeb Brothers Yatala team only had the one competitor with our female student Andrea Mangakahia competing for her second time. Andrea or Dre as we call her at the academy last competed a few years ago before family and work commitments made her step away from BJJ. Dre started her BJJ training again in October last year and has been working hard on improving her jiu jitsu and getting ready for the competition last weekend.
Dre had two matches for the day, winning her first match via submission due to an americana. Her finals match was an epic battle which was back and forth until the very end. Dre ended up winning via points 19-10 and becoming champion. A great fight which had the crowd cheering for both competitors.
A big thank you to all our teammates, friends & family who showed up to support Dre and the rest of the Galeb Brothers BJJ team who competed. Some amazing results by the entire team. It's great to see our fellow Galeb Brothers & Sisters competing and testing themselves.
